Abstract
In modern days, finding a parking space in a busy city center is often a confusing task and many driver's time and fuel are wasted in the exploration for a vacant spot. This paper describes a prototype for a smart parking system which enables drivers to explore the parking area remotely, spot vacant parking spaces, reserve it for a period, and pay the service through mobile payment system. The smart car parking System (SCPS) is implemented using the ultrasonic and IR sensors, in combination with the usage of the Internet of Things. The drivers can see which parking slot is empty and where to park by sending the data of ultrasonic and IR sensors through a Wi-Fi module that is ESP8266, and NODMCU to any open source easy to use the IoT platform (Google Firebase). The system has been tested and showed that it is a promising solution for parking problems in Mogadishu booming business areas.
